How to Measure a Couch and Its Exit Route Before Pickup

Measure the furniture and every turn in its path, then note removable feet, doors, stairs, and landing space.

Start with the couch, but do not stop there. Record its overall width, depth, and height. Then measure the narrowest doorway, hall, stair, and landing on the way out. The available turning room often matters as much as the door opening.

A five-point route check

  1. Measure the couch at its widest, deepest, and tallest points.
  2. Measure the clear opening with the door fully open.
  3. Check hall width, ceiling height, stair width, and landing depth.
  4. Note removable feet, cushions, or sectional connectors.
  5. Photograph tight turns so the pickup team can plan before arrival.

What to send with an estimate request

Include the couch type, approximate dimensions, floor level, stairs or elevator, parking distance, and the requested timing. A sleeper mechanism or reclining frame can add weight, so mention it even when the outside dimensions look ordinary.

Do not remove doors or force a heavy couch through a turn unless you know the route is safe. Ask the removal provider to assess uncertain clearances.
